Press release

Nahla magazine is a contemporary and pioneering lifestyle, education and fashion publication released seasonally. The publication is a mixture of images and articles with a focus on inspiring and historical stories as well as fashion and photography, it is the ideal hairdressers reception publication.
Founded by 19 year old student Joice Etutu the publication was created to be enjoyed by those who are keen to learn about African, Caribbean and Asian history and culture as well as those who love fashion and beauty.

Nahla aims to promote men, and women young or old who are doing exceptional things within their communities and have inspiring stories to tell. In a generation where your status and self worth is determined by the amount of followers you have on social media, Nahla sets to offer a platform for many young people from all walks of life to voice their opinions and remind them that there is more to life than social media. Ambition is the key to success.

Nahla announces the release of its first issue, which is based on female empowerment. In a world dominated by men, Issue No.1 solely focuses on ambitious, resilient, inspiring, and educated women. Women of substance, women who have more than beauty and are doing everything they can to make the world a better place. Whether it’s through politics, sports, business or fashion Nahla wants to applaud all the women setting a good example to the next generation of young women who also wish to do more than society and their background limits them to do.

The cover of issue one features the winners of Miss Congo UK Joice Etutu, Naomi Mote and Hygette Muhima (Photographed by MC Media) three young women who epitomize what our first issue is about. They all share the same passion for bettering the African community as well as helping their homeland of Congo better their education system and help victims of rape, which is a huge difficulty in Congo.

Nahla’s motto is to Empower Enlighten and Encourage and Issue No.1 has hopefully accomplished the task of delivering all three with the article, features and photographs included.
Nahla magazine is an idea I came up with in January, as I have already had the launch and some great feedback I would like to extend it and expand it to my final major project. Although it is a magazine and many magazines have been created, the content is not your everyday content. Along with that I believe if successful Nahla will give job opportunities to those around the world.

Client/Audience.
Although my idea is driven by the rise of Africa and will feature many features on African history, it will also intertwine with asian and caribbean history as these three are linked. If you look at the African continent it's obvious

that it has the most
diverse range of looking people on the planet. So my target audience is female 18+ who is interested in all things fashion and beauty but who is also intrigued by intersting history economics and political matters, as each issue will have a different theme and within that theme will be a wide complex of article and features.

Nahla's target audience infuses women who like to look good with women who are interested in other subjects too. each feature will be based on what is going on in the world. I will look at both controversial, non controversial topics.
These images are just to show the diversity in African women, so really the target reader could be anything from blue eyes and blonde hair to dark eyes and an afro plus everything inbetween,
(Inspo 3) History. Reading into ancient Africa and discovering spirituality along with african kingdoms has geared my thinking into the type of content nahla will include. I don't wish for my magazine to be to solely be based on fashion, beauty and lifestyle. I also want it to have education features and articles. So looking into the history of not only africa but other colonized continents such as Asia will be crucial in my development.
(Inspo 2)
  • The rise of Africa's economic growth
  • musical growth
  • fashion
  • art
  • drama
  • creative

Growths is something that should not go unnoticed but instead gives me the opportunity to join the movement and report on the growth spurt in different industries using different forms of media platforms.

(Inspo1)#BETAwards2015: Fuse ODG, Dencia React to BET Giving African Artists Awards Backstage & 5 Hours before the Show'

Recently read that the BET (Black entertainment television) awards were giving African artists awards backstage and even hours before the show began. I feel it is extremely disappointing that an award ceremony that celebrates and embraces black/african culture would snub African artists. This is why I'd like to create something that reminds not just Africans but other colonised countries of their roots.
(1 reason- quickthought) I recently read Africa Economic Outlook which stated that Africa’s population set to double by 2050. So looking at the figures from the economical standpoint it'll be crucial for the continent to create millions of new jobs.

With my idea comes the possibility to do that. By creating my business I will not only be able to provide employment for many across the continent but I will also be giving opportunities for some young africans to come and study/intern in the UK for a year.

With 'Nahla' I will not only have a team in the UK but will also have a team in parts of Africa to make sure we have the latest news and updates in terms of what's happening on the ground.
